The Perils of Social Media
Tik Tok is one of the newest and most popular social media sites, especially for young people. The reason so many people are addicted to it is because they can make and post videos easily. Viewers can decide whether they watch videos of who they follow or they can watch random videos on “For You Page.”
Older people still prefer the more traditional social media sites like Facebook. No matter the age, it seems like too many people spend too much time on social media. Some are starting to warn the rest of us that we could be sending ourselves into a depression. Dr. Primack, Dean of the College of Education and Health Professions, has researched to impact of too much time on social media on mental health. He found that people who spent more than five hours on social media each day were more likely to suffer from depression than those who spent less than two hours.
Before Tik Tok was created, Instagram was the most popular site for young people. Posting pictures was one reason people liked it so much. But, Tik Tok made things even easier to post so now everyone uses that one.
Journalists and people who used to use twitter are starting to move away from it. They realized that its too distracting and negative.
